Starting today and through the end of this month, every Thursday night the “BE KOBE” Monument in Meriken Park and many other locations throughout Kobe will be lit up in blue.
This campaign, intended to express our gratitude to all the medical professionals currently fighting the novel coronavirus, first began in London and has also become popular in the United States. Now, Kobe has joined it as well, lighting up various facilities throughout the city. Additionally, the Akashi Strait Bridge – the longest suspension bridge in the world – has also been lit up in blue.
The fight against the novel coronavirus continues all around the globe, and our city is experiencing an increase in the number of infections as well. Nevertheless, despite the extreme difficulty of the situation, our medical professionals are doing everything in their power to protect us every day. Therefore, I strongly believe that we all need to remember to express our gratitude for their vital service.
It is my sincere hope that this gesture will help convey our heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals throughout the world, and I urge you to show your support by sharing #LightItBlue.
